Know Your GRE and IELTS Exam Syllabus 

Students preparing to join overseas universities in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada must be wondering what to expect in the GRE syllabus of 2023. Let’s come to what they want to know without wasting any time. The syllabus will include three sections.

GRE Analytical Writing

GRE Verbal Reasoning, and

GRE Quantitative Reasoning.

The GRE syllabus has been designed to measure applicants’ verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills, which are essential qualities for higher education. Candidates willing to join graduation programs abroad must qualify for their Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and achieve good scores.

The GRE has two test sections

GRE General Test and

GRE Subject Test.

GRE General Test:

It’s a standard test that tests students’ verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills.

GRE Subject Test: GRE Subject Test is required by the college, and it’s primarily focused on judging the candidate’s expertise in specific fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, and Mathematics.

IELTS Exam syllabus 

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and is conducted to test the English language skills of students interested in pursuing graduation from overseas universities. It is a very important test because it tests the English language skill of students who intend to stay for a period ranging from one to three years. If they have very good proficiency in the language, it will be easier for them to survive in a foreign country.

The IELTS exam syllabus includes the following test.

Academic – Writing

The writing part of IELTS Academic includes two tasks. The topics are usually of general interest and per the level of candidates planning to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses abroad or seeking professional registration.

Task 1

In this task, candidates are provided with a graph, table, chart, and diagram and are supposed to explain, summarize or describe the information in their own words. Candidates are asked to interpret and explain a given data and describe the various stages of a process. They must also demonstrate through a flowchart how it works or describes an object or a particular event.

Task 2

Here, candidates are asked to write an essay responding to their viewpoint, problem, or argument. For both tasks, the candidate’s responses must be formal and academic. Moreover, the arguments should be supported by suitable examples.

IELTS syllabus 2023 – Speaking

This test has three parts and is also recorded for evaluation purposes. You appear for a virtual oral interview with an examiner. The Speaking test is meant to assess candidates’ skills in spoken English. It doesn’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The examiner records the entire speaking test. The Speaking test is conducted so candidates can only rehearse or prepare responses in advance.

Part 1

You will be asked general questions about yourself, such as home, family, work, studies, and hobbies. The test only takes around four to five minutes.

Part 2

In this test, candidates are given a card and are asked to speak on a particular topic. They get one minute for preparation and two minutes for speaking. Candidates may be asked one or two questions on the same subject to complete the second part of the speaking test.

Part 3

This part is the extended test for part 2, where candidates are asked further questions related to the subject of Part 2. These questions are asked of candidates to discuss abstract ideas and issues. This test has a duration of about four to five minutes.

However, candidates are advised to use a neutral accent while answering in the Speaking section and avoid fake accents.
