SAFAL: Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning

Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning levels (SAFAL) is an assessment that ensures the progress of students throughout the school years. It provides diagnostic information about students’ learning to schools and thus, supports school education to move towards competency-based education. The results of this assessment are largely used to provide development feedback to schools and not for the promotion of students to the next grade. The CBSE board is working towards it and invites all schools to participate in SAFAL in 2021-22.

Purpose of Key Stage Assessment (SAFAL) In CBSE Schools

The purpose of key stage assessments of SAFAL in CBSE schools is as follows:

1) Nudge System Towards Competency-based Learning

Establish a formal protocol to collect valid and reliable data to chart performance on competencies at and below the grade level and monitor progress.

2) Measure School Performance On Key Competencies

School level performance on key competencies and proficiency levels can be used to measure effectiveness of a system through systematic monitoring and reporting of learning level.

3) Identify Areas Of Academic Intervention For Support/ Management

School managements and school systems can use this data for targeting academic support and data-based management.

Sample Items For SAFAL

The assessment items developed for SAFAL will test the critical competencies across key strands and domains. The items will be developed based on the performance indicators across the four levels to determine the student proficiency and achievement in the respective competencies. This kind of assessment design will ensure a shift towards a competency-based assessment and learning system, allowing students to demonstrate understanding and mastery of knowledge and skills they are expected to learn.

Students can also solve the CBSE Sample Papers for Class 12 and boost their exam preparation for class 12 exams. From the 2021-22 assessment year, the class 12 exams will be conducted in two terms, i.e., term 1 and term 2. The board has also released the term wise syllabus. CBSE has provided a detailed assessment for the board classes and the complete detail of the conduct of exams.
