Signs To Replace Your Towels

Bath towels are one of the overused household essentials as they are used every day. So it is unsurprising that they are often laundered as they get dirty quickly. Just because they are not torn at the seams or have holes does not mean you should not replace these towels. Even the most expensive and high-quality towels won’t last forever and need replacement. But how do you know when to replace them? There are tell-tale signs which indicate you should do away with your old ones and start searching for new towels. Read below to know those signs:

The Towel is no longer Absorbent

One of the most important features of a towel is to dry off the water. If you see that it is not serving its basic function of not drying you off and taking longer than it used to, or is dripping wet more than usual after a wash then it’s time to change it. If it no longer serves its purpose of being absorbent or drips water after a wash, it needs replacement with a new one.

Has an Odour

Your towel may stink for many reasons. It could be that the bathroom is not properly ventilated or it can be the individual that is using it. However, if even after washing with a detergent it still stinks then it is a clear sign that you should invest in a new towel. The other reason to replace it is that it can absorb more germs than water and should be replaced.

Towels are Stretchy

If you remember the feel of the towel when you brought it new, you would have noticed they were soft and fluffy. But after many uses or if they were used for many months or years, you would have seen that there is a gradual decrease in its fullness and you no longer have that plushness. That is because towels stretch because of detergents, and body oils that accumulate in the fabric. This can give roughness and stiffness to your towels. However, if the towel is new and the fabric texture has changed then you should use a different laundry detergent.

There is Spotting

If you see spots on your towels these can be mildew spots due to lack of ventilation in the bathroom. If this is an issue with all your towels, you should use a fan to dry the towel or open a window after a shower so that the moisture in the bathroom is reduced. If these two options are not possible, leave the bathroom door open to reduce moisture as that is the root cause of mildew.

Towels are Old

Do you remember when you bought these towels or if you bought any new towels at all recently? If you don’t then it is time to purchase new ones. High-quality towels last long if they are maintained properly but if you use them often and do not rotate they can last only so long.

Towels even those of high quality are not made to last forever. So if there are spots, that are ripped or stretchy consider replacing them. If you don’t want to toss them out, repurpose them for drying something else.
